The latest forecast from MetService New Zealand has just been issued. The warning is in place for the next 3 hours. A heavy rain watch will continue through to Saturday morning.
Heavy Rain Warning - Orange
Period: 3hrs from noon - 3pm Fri, 27 Jun
Area: Nelson District about and southeast of SH 6 and north of Nelson Lakes, also Marlborough about and north of Seddon
Forecast: Expect 20 to 40 mm of rain on top of what has fallen, especially about the ranges. Peak rates of 10 to 20 mm/h, mainly about the ranges. Note, heavy showers for remainder of today with possible thunderstorms. Low chance of upgrading to a Red Warning.
Impact: Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible.
Action: Clear your drains and gutters to prepare for heavy rain. Avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously
Heavy Rain Watch
Period: 21hrs from noon Fri, 27 Jun - 9am Sat, 28 Jun
Area: Tasman about and northwest of Motueka
Forecast: Periods of heavy rain or showers with possible thunderstorms. Amounts may approach warning criteria about isolated areas. Moderate chance of upgrading to a Warning.
For those people who are evacuated and do not have friends or family to stay with, then there are the following options:
- Civil Defence Centre at Motueka Recreation Centre (Old Wharf Road).
- A community led centre at the Moutere Hills Community Centre (1539 Moutere Highway).
- A community centre at St Johns Church - in Wakefield (120 Edward Street) - currently closed. Can reopen if required.
- A community led centre at the Design room at Tapawera Area school. (Main Road Tapawera).
If you are evacuated, or can not travel to your destination, then you can go to these locations. Please remember to take your pets with you, along with important documents and medication.
Road closures are in place throughout the region. People are being asked to keep off roads and avoid unnecessary travel.

Slips have been noted on SH60 - lower end of the Takaka Hill at the Riwaka end. These are being assessed.
Treat all flood water with caution. This could contain debris or be contaminated.
