Today we will be holding the first of our community meetings.
Wakefield (12 pm to 2 pm at Wakefield Hall – 10 Whitby Way) and Tapawera (3 pm – 5pm at Tapawera Rugby Club rooms, Main Road Tapawera).
A meeting for Motueka will be arranged, this is currently scheduled for Friday 4 July, information to follow.
We understand that these times may not work for everyone – especially those that are hard at work preparing their properties for the rain that is coming tomorrow. We will record the key information and share this online.
Weather Warnings:
There is an orange weather warning in place.
Heavy Rain Warning - Orange
Period: 15hrs from 3am - 6pm Thu, 3 Jul
Area: Tasman District northwest of Motueka
Forecast: Expect 120 to 150 mm of rain, but 150 to 200 mm possible in localised areas including the coast. Peak rates of 15 to 25 mm per hour. Note, further rain or showers expected for the remainder of Thursday and Friday. Low chance of upgrading to a Red Warning.
Impact: Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible.
Action: Clear your drains and gutters to prepare for heavy rain. Avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously
Heavy Rain Warning - Orange
Period: 15hrs from 6am - 9pm Thu, 3 Jul
Area: Tasman District about and southeast of Motueka, Nelson District, the Richmond and Bryant Ranges including the Rai Valley, and the Marlborough Sounds
Forecast: Expect 80 to 110 mm of rain about the Sounds and ranges, and 50 to 80 mm elsewhere. Peak rates of 10 to 20 mm per hour, mainly about ranges. Note, further rain or showers is expected on Friday. Low chance of upgrading to a Red Warning.
Impact: Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions possible.
Action: Clear your drains and gutters to prepare for heavy rain. Avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously.
Be prepared, especially with our saturated region. Keep clear of waterways if possible, move stock to higher ground, and keep off roads if possible.

Local Roads:
We cannot have a team positioned at all closures, we need to trust in the community to not try to drive through these closures. They are in place for your safety.
Communications:
temporary connections are being reestablished across the region, this will remain patchy until a permanent fix can be completed. Areas of concern St Arnaud, Murchison and Wakefield.
Motueka Information Centre:
A Civil Defence Centre information centre is open daily at the Motueka Rec Centre. 9am to 5pm.
We know this is tough - and there are people at the Recreation Centre who can help - sometimes it really helps just to talk to someone.
Flood Damaged Goods:
If you have flood damaged goods, then these can be delivered to the transfer stations. If you need assistance for collection, then please call Council on 03 543 8400.
Student Volunteer Army:
The Student Volunteer Army has activated, if you need help with the clean-up (anything with a bit of people power!) or if you can volunteer please visit their website

Government Funding and Mayoral Relief:

Rahui in place:
A rahui is in place across the whole region including Nelson coastlines. This will be in place for the next six days. The rahui prevents the gathering of seafood and kai in these areas as well as swimming and entering the water.
Keep out of the water:
Tasman Harbourmaster has identified a lot of debris around the coast and is encouraging people to not clear or salvage this debris and to not take boats out.
